Sea, Sky, Stone – Hidden Treasure by Weina Xu Penhaligan
An exhibition by Bury St Edmunds based artist Weina Xu Penhaligan. Sea, Sky Stone – Hidden Treasure shows acrylic and mixed media artwork on various materials such as slate, tiles and canvas. Weina’s work is inspired by seascapes and summer nights and is one of her most joyful collections.
Weina graduated from Shanghai University in 1997, studying Interior Design and Fine Art under Master Dahan. Following a successful Interior Design career in China, she settled and started a family in Bury St. Edmunds in 2008.
Weina uses acrylic, watercolour and ink mediums to paint landscapes, floral and still life works, taking inspiration from the Suffolk countryside to the coast, expressing the changes of the seasons and daily life.
The seascape is always a favourite subject to explore in my paintings. From the open air to solid rocks, the endless observation of the changing light and textures through the seasons are all the inspiration for me.
The tile series is inspired by Cornwall, walking through villages on the coast full of surprises and stories.
The canvas series is inspired by the summer night, my favourite moment, covered by violet blue sky, listening to the musical water ebbing and flowing, with its secrets in the air.
This is one of my most joyful collections. I hope they make you smile.
